New website only listing 30 MPG or better, MPGstar Dealers
Created August 14, 2008, at 6:22 pm by greenfeen
I was watching CNBC or CSPAN, or one of those, and they were talking about non-hybrids, and hybrid gas milage. They were talking about how 30 MPG or up is the industry movement now, and manufactures are producing auto's to hit that bench mark. Also they were talking about shoppers new and used are searching 30 plus MPG, regaudless of Hybrid or Gas.
They stated a new auto website, MPGstar.com, has started testing, and search engine optimization has begun and has targeted late this month, to launch.
So I did a search on Yahoo, "30 MPG Listing" and first on the list was MPGstar.com. Has anyone else heard about this? I'm not sure if its something "Energy Star" is supporting. Who ever it is, they hit the hammer on the head!
I was playing around, and if you look at listing agents, you can see all the Toyota Dealers going on. This should be cool, Its worth checking out!

Funny you posted this, I was at my work and the president of the company was just talking about MPGstar.com He also must have seen it on the news. His words were this, "Why did'nt I think of that?" Now I'm wondering the same thing my self. I did go to the site, and seen Toyota all over it, mabe I'll list my Prius, and buy a new Toyota Camry Hybrid, all through the site! Now my wheels are turning!
I was just on the site today, I was looking for a red Toyota Prius, and could not find one. They had a dealer 80 miles away from my home, who had one. I emailed for more info, and I was contacted not only by the dealer, buy also from a representive of MPGstar.com, and made sure that all my questions were answerd, and the dealer contacted me. I thought that was great. I'm now the PROUD owener of a 2007 Toyota Prius.
I LOVE IT!! Thanks for everything!
Just found this on google, I thought it was worth posting.
MPGstar.com announces Toyota and Honda Top Searched Cars for August 2008
MPGstar.com, One of the world's first online auto classified service that list only new and used autos that have an MPG rating of 30 and over, announced that Toyota and Honda Top 2 most searched used cars for the month of August 2008.
Toyota Prius topped the search charts, with an average of 153 visitors daily (approx 4600 monthly) searching for used Toyota Prius. Out of the 153 visitors, 131 contacted the selling dealer for further information.
The Honda Civic was the second with 134 daily searches. (approx 4200 monthly) Out of the 182 daily visitors, an average of 83 daily contacted selling dealers.
Rising in the pack was the Chevy Aveo, with 41% daily search volume increase from July. The Aveo was searched 82 times per day, however only 21% contacted the selling dealer.

This is for all of those who say "When gas prices go down, nobody will be buying those." This was MPGstar.com 1st month online, and they are getting alot of peaple looking for gas savers, even with gas prices going down.
mpgstar.com has Those Zap XEBRA PK ELECTRIC CARS, they are cool looking, I've never seen them. Does anybody own one? It looks like it would be perfect for collage campus driving. If anybody here has one, please let me know if you like it. Also the GEM car by chrysler.
Thanks,
Augustine
Its about time for a site like this!! Keep up the good work!!!
The Zap Xebra is a strange beast. I don't have one but have looked at them pretty carefully. They are very similar to NEVs (Neighborhood Electric Vehicle) such as the GEM, ZENN, Miles but they are allowed to go faster because they are classified as a motorcycle. Essentially all of these are glorified golf carts that (except the Xebra) are restricted to 25 mph top speed because they haven't passed any crash safety testing - nor would any of them pass. Legally, in many states, you are not allowed to operate these on roads with speed limits over 35 mph. Hacks are supposedly available to illegally boost the speed on some up to 35 but besides being illegal, these hacks will void your warranty and may reduce the life of the battery.
They are probably great for use on college campuses, however, if all your normal driving is on neighborhood and campus streets. You need to be sure you can find a 110v outlet near your parking to charge from, of course.
I have a few friends with GEMs that swear they are the best thing for urban driving. While they top out at 25 mph, their acceleration is great so they are optimized for stop-and-go driving since they can get up to speed after a stop sign very quickly.
I would recommend that you be careful about buying a used one such as the ones on eBay. While there can be good deals, many have bought these cars and then discovered that they don't meet their needs. They often sit, unused for many years and the batteries are often in bad shape. If you buy a used one, be sure to carefully check out the battery or assume you'll have to replace it (and that can be expensive).
I was looking at a GEM, VERY COOL! EV1, is correct. They are not street legal in most places, buy their ok on private property, such as camp grounds. Its a great concept, and hopefully they can build on the technology for improvment to become street legal.
THANKS FOR THE INFO! I'M LOOKING TO BUY IT TO PUT AROUND CAMPUS GROUNDS, AND TO PREMOTE ELECTRIC CARS.
Site looks really nice. I hope dealers will suck it up and join. They have to realize that the focus of the average consumer has vastly changed in a very short period of time. I love the idea of a centralized search. I hope the site is wildy successful. I know I will look here first when I'm ready to buy. Keep it rolling!
