My Escape Hybrid Is In - Price Issues

Created February 7, 2005, at 10:23 pm by Anonymous

Just got a call from my broker that I can take delivery. I will have to pay the $400 increase in the base price. He is telling me that I was not "price protected" when I ordered 12/9/04 which was a change of order from 11/9/04 that was cancelled. This was a dealer unit. Also note that this has all options for a FWD for those who have orders in the works. Total price is $31,225 plus $495.00 dealer fee, tax and tag for FL. My broker had to make something out of the deal that was included in that price. I'll kept the forum posted after I close and drive this unit.

A local Ford Dealer in Silver Spring MD. is asking $3000. over window sticker price. I don't know if anyone is buying at the asking price but you would have to drive 2.3 million miles to make up the savings in gas mileage.

Dale, my first driving experience today with my unit was great. I am so happy with its performance and driving ride. I've read all the pros and cons about steering, braking, handling, A/C, electric mode that had me worried about the FEH. I must have gotten the perfect one of the bunch. This SUV is better than expected by far in my book. My broker works in my Credit Union and the car was delivered there. They were so impressed with the SUV that they financed MSRP, tax, tag and gave me free GAP insurance. Six years @ 4.5% simple interest. Payment is $530 a month.

Price issues? I've paid alot more for less happiness. This SUV cost less than my '99 Lincoln Navigator and '02 V8 EB Explorer but is more impressive than both put together. The Nav. system adds icing on the cake. My 13 yr. old can't kept his hands off it.

I've read that the automakers are worried that Hybrids are going to catch on and change the industry. I now see their concerns. Buying a non hybrid will quickly become a waste of money. Price issues? Yes there is a issue with me about buying something that you have to give away in three years.

I didn't pay $3,000 over MSRP, and I hope no one will. I was told that the Dealership that sold me my unit would not let another one go for only $500 over MSRP. My unit was the first the Dealer got. I'm glad my Broker sells alot of vehicles from them and they knew not to change the agreement.

This Is High Tech Stuff!

Bought my Hybrid back in November 2004.
AT INVOICE!
Pretty good deal - a fleet customer backed out of an order of 10 Hybrids. So there was a choice ... not bad! Ate a deposit on a car that was ordered from another dealer that was charging just below MSRP, but so what? Came out way ahead of the game. And the other dealer sold the car within a month of delivery. Plus, of course, I took full advantage of all federal and state tax advantages, including a partial refund of sales tax.
On another note:
Hybrid performance has been good in the cold and snow of New York City, average mileage has been around 27/29 mpg - yep you've got to warm up everything a bit to get into stealth mode, and have to drive like every other New Yorker with a yellow cab hounding his keester .... or 75 mph on the NJ Turnpike with people PASSING you!
The truck has been a satifying experience, from purchase right through to daily use. It's built much tighter than the '01 Escape V6 it replaced. It's quieter and handles smoother.
