It's finally here

Last week I traded my Explorer in for a 4 x 4 Escape Hybrid. I love it so far, and it's nice to go from being part of the problem to part of th solution.

It has far more acceleration and is just generally more fun to drive than the Explorer. It's plenty big too. The sound and navigation system are great.

No mechanical problems so far, but the Nav system seems to 'reboot' periodically. The screen goes dark, then displays the startup page. The radio or CD player continues to play and it doesn't lose clock settings or presets or anything. If it continues to happen I might take it in to the dealer.

By the way, I bought my vehicle from the dealership in Raleigh, NC. I spec'd it out and ordered it back in October or November. I paid sticker. It was the second one that this dealer had sold.

I haven't had a reboot problem yet but I have the FWD. Do you have a trip odometer for refuel? The reset button that normally is near the regular odometer is missing. The computer gives you instant MPG and last 15 min. but no way except writing down the mileage can you determine overall MPH. Both the "Average Fuel Ecom." and "Instant Ecom" have been deleted on my unit in the standard location. Did they leave these features on FEH with no Nav system? The manual just says "if equipped".

I'm quickly learning how to drive more on elec. only mode. Applying the brakes just before 30 MPH will kick off the gas engine so you can drive on electric up to 35MPH more often. Don't know if the AWD will let you go to that speed on flat roads. I think the FEH will perform well here in South Florida. Based on the gas I put in, the distance I've traveled and learning how to drive this thing, I can see that 36MPG after break-in. Of course I think that will be rarely done based on conditions.

I did find the trip odometer and the reset button. It just reads one (trip or odometer) at a time and the button is hard to see.

So far without the AC, I am averaging between 37-39MPG! Thats driving as good as I can. With less than 500 miles on the vehicle, can't wait till it gets broke-in. Ford may have improved the computer programing or something. This may be a correction to that reboot problem people are talking about that I don't have. Very happy about this.

Lewis,
Congrats on the new hybrid. I also ordered a hybrid back in July from a dealer in Greensboro. Absolutely no word from them on when they might get it in or even if they will get one. How did you get so lucky?

CB,

I'm sorry to hear that the car you ordered hasn't arrived. I guess I was very lucky indeed. Mine actually arrived earlier than promised. They'd told me it would take until mid-march at the earliest.

Perhaps you should contact your dealer to find out what the problem is. Did you put down a deposit?
