Is Hybrid vehicle a good choice?

Hello Hybrid Folks,
My wife and I are considering the purchase of our first Hybrid Vehicle; 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid. I estimate that 80+% of our driving will be short, local trips within a 10 mile radius. Our decision to own hybrid technology is more for our desire to be "green" rather than long commutes to work. Does anyone know if our short trip driving routine is adverse in any way to a hybrid vehicle? We desire to live as green as we can, however, with daily short commutes to work, does this purchase make sense? Thanks for your feedback. Sciman4u

Sciman4u:
With a 10 mile radius limit, your mileage may never be good because it is likely that your car will not warm-up properly to produce the mileage it is capable of- but then again, neither would any other car.
On the bright side, a Civic hybrid will always exhibit better fuel economy with lower emissions under those conditions than any other car on the road today. It will fit your objectives as long as its rated fuel economy is not something you will focus on too much.
If your purchase has to make economic sense first, then you may be just as happy with another fuel efficient car as well. A regular Civic, FIT, Corolla or Yaris are well worth considering as they are very clean (although not as clean as an economy hybrid).

:) Thanks for your reply. We are also looking at Corollas and regular Civics. A hybrid is very cool and I would love to have one. Since I ride a commuter bus to work and we don't seem to drive far enough for a proper warmup, I'll keep to a regular vehicle for now. Thanks again.
