Hybku (Hybrid Poetry) Contest

Created January 19, 2005, at 1:55 pm by Anonymous

Before entering, read the details about the Hybku Contest at:
http://www.hybridcars.com/hybku.html

DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 28, 2005

Haiku basics: 3 lines. 5 syllables on first line, 7 on second, and 5 on third line.

I'll start the ball rolling with two entries:

Bumper to bumper
Big fat cars spew noxious fumes
My hybrid is hushed

SUV driver
Says don’t forget nine one one
Buys sixty bucks of gas

Okay, so I used six syllables in the final line. I'm sure you can do better. Good luck, hybrid car bards.

Hybrid city drive
Through traffic: stop, slow and go
Buy gas once a month

I love my hybrid
Fifty miles per gallon
In the car pool lane

Gas AND electric
The best of both worlds
Clever, these car folks

Heavy footed drive
You just waste more gas too fast

My hybrid is cool.
Or do the kids now say
“My hybrid is hot?”

Gas price? I don’t care.
Five hundred miles per tank
Makes it worthwhile.

These are a little depressing but I'll try to remedy that next time.....if I have can.

SUV drivers:
What is that sad sound I hear?
Soldiers are dying.

SUV drivers:
What is that new sound I hear?
Children have asthma.

SUV drivers:
Why can you not change your ways?
Think of others, please.

American flag
adorns your giant bumper.
Do you love this land?

Ensconced in silence
I pause a moment, and breath.
Traffic light turns green.

Take 5 (haikus) in 10 (minutes):

What can I do now
Little me, no impact yet

It travels lightly even
I still drive less now

Why not hybridize
The whole dam planet even
It's get a clue time

Hybrid brings a chance
To make a difference earthly
This planet's our home

How apropos now

My Japanese car

Perhaps it exists
The choice between hate and love
I choose hybrid hope.

Elegant lines slim
My gentle motor hums within
Prescious air outside.

You are less than you
Large SUV next to me
Were meant to believe

Civic's my Hybrid
Xtracycle on my bike
Am I cool or what?

Sharing with the poor
Dollars not spent on fills ups
Do unto others.

Writing a Hybku
Almost as fun as driving
Very addictive

Enough already!
Got to get in Hybrid now.
Saving gas not time!

Lined Up At The Pump
Guzzlers Fill Their Tanks Often
I Drive By In My Hybrid

A Kyoto pact
to save us from polution
But we turned our backs

Oil Oil Gasoline,
Help us, Electricity,
Reduce emissions

Ten gallons of gas
will take me to Chicago
from New York City
