How many hybrids in CA?

How many hybrids were sold in CA, ever? New legislation will allow only 75K permits for carpool lane. Want to know the chances of not getting the permit if I buy the car today. Thanks.

There were 11,500 hybrid registrations in California in 2003. Even if this was doubled in 2004, and you add in registrations for previous years (as well as other alternative vehicles during this period), I think there's a year or more ramp-up time before the 75,000 mark is hit.

If anybody has different numbers, please let us know.
