hch engine fan running

has anyone experienced this? twice i've noticed the engine fan running after i turned off the ignition and removed the car key. is this normal hch behavior? since i'm not sure if this is ok or not, i just get back in the car again, start it for a few seconds and turn it off. it is only then when the engine fan stops. is this a problem? defect?

Mine always runs for about a minute then shuts off. Since I've had other cars that did this, I assume that it's not a problem.

Tons of cars run the radiator fan after you've turned the motor off. It's probably in the manual that it states this activity is normal. Some cars even have electric water pumps and run both the radiator fan and water pump for a good 60 seconds or so after the motor's off in order to try to prevent hot spots from forming after shutdown. I wouldn't think it would matter with a tiny engine car like the Civic Hybrid, but it may be extra sensitive to heat since it's a highly optimized drivetrain.

I asked a Honda certified mechanic about this same question. It's is cooling fan and it is okay for it to be on after you turn off the engine. He said it could run as long as 20 minutes. However if it runs longer than that take in to get it checked.
I notice mine has a tendency once in while to come on after driving on the freeway for a while then turning the engine off shortly after getting off the freeway.

I think it does that because it's only a small engine car, so it gets hot very easily and the fan is turn on automatically to cool it off to prevent the engine from seizing. Is this make sense?

My 2004 HCH's fan only runs after a long drive, or when the ambient air tempurature is very hot. The fan will stay on for up to 5 minutes, in some cases.
