HCH 2006 MPG Worsening

Created August 12, 2007, at 10:02 am by CivicMinded

Hello. I have a 2006 HCH. Started out with great MPG -- 55 on straight hwy drives. Averaged high 30's low 40's (I live on a hill). It has declined over time. Took it to the dealer this week who downloaded new software. It is better but not like it used to be. I use the trip meter to check mileage and it seems like it is about 20% lower than when the car was new. I occassionally have a problem where press on accelerator and feels like the car isn't getting any gas -- floor the accelarator and the car goes 5 MPH up a hill. It is almost a 'scary' feeling bvecause the car has no power. I have taken it to the dealer twice and mentioned this problem and no solutions.

Has anyone had problems like this? Any solutions?

Honda has been getting mixed feedback from their recent software updates. The word is that they will likely percolate a subsequent revision tagged along with better deployment targeting.

The problem with many of these Honda Hybrid software updates is that they cannot be rolled back unless the targeted module is replaced with one containing an older version of the software. In any case, your best bet is to force the issue with your dealership having in mind that they can only do so much. Your alternate best bet is to contact Honda Corporate or just wait for their next update to be available on your next service appointment.

Have you considered other (operational) factors that combined with the software update may help exacerbate the FE drop?

ON A SIDE NOTE:
I had all software updates performed on my 2006 HCH (in June 2007) and they match that of my 2007 HCH. So far, the performance and behavior for the 2006 is not statistically different from what it used to be before the update.
