there are 10 bars on the gas gauge. i fill up when it has 2 bars left and only pumped in around 6 gallons. i am afraid to let it get to 1. anyone else having the same thing going on?

I wait until one bar and pump 7.8 to 8.5 gallons. If I wait too long the bar starts blinking and beeps; a fill up is around 9 gallons. The car's manual says don't let the tank get below quarter full; if quarter full you'll put in 8.93 gallons. DO NOT let it run out of gas; a friend did and had to be towed in and they charged her $200 to get it running.

I drive about 50 miles after the car beeps and put in about 9-10 gal. I find a better guage is to multiply the current MPG (I reset at every fuel up) by 10 and I know I can go at least that far. Works for me.:D

Woah! So you get a range of 450-500 miles without a fill-up? I'm scared to go more than 350 miles on a tank -- that's what I typically expect from my Odyssey or on a Lexus.

I have never counted the bars, but the service manager @ Ventura Toyota told me never to try to over fill the tank. Once the pump stops that is it. Further pumping will spill gas on the outside of the tank and damage it. When my car gets to about 1-2 bars I put in 8 gals. of gas, sometimes close to nine gals.

When I get to the last bar on the gas gauge and its starts blinking I figure I have about 30 miles to go before I get gas. When I fill up then it takes about 9.5 gallons.
