Engine Air filter for HCH '08

Created August 29, 2008, at 12:23 pm by Sjuju

Does any one know, what are the options on engine air filter for HCH '08? If so, what are the brands and part numbers replace genuine air filter? And is it recommended? Genuine Honda air filters are ridiculously expensive about $35.00.

Thank you in advance!!!

Good luck, I can only find after market filters for the 3 and 4 Years. My son bought one of those oil bath filters.

bernardiparts.com claims to carry genuine Honda parts Air filter SKU: 17220-RMX-000 for $ 13.52. It is too good to be true. Any thoughts?

Is the Maintenance Minder telling you to replace it? It typically comes up after about 2 years, along with the Cabin Air Filter. Do you want the hassle/risk, over $15~20?

Um, how about K&N Air Filters?

They're washable and reusable!

Saves you money
good for the environment

not much more than OEM Honda air filter
-----------------------------------------
With the whole environmental purpose of hybrids, and also considering that Honda only wants you to change the oil filter every OTHER oil change, I want to know:
WHY DIDN'T HONDA JUST GIVE IT A K&N AIR FILTER FROM THE FACTORY?????????

Because K&N have been shown to let through more particulate matter with the higher air flow. As it stands, the OEM filter represents the best compromise and no Honda support engineer would ever recommend a K&N setup for a car that is hardly ever starved for air flow.

The other thing to consider are the issues with poorly cleaned/oiled K&N's. Because it is something owners do, their skill and care vary greatly as it is evidenced by the many damaged MAF sensors among other problems. Also, a K&N setup has been proven to not contribute to any increase in FE... and according to some who tried these high flow filters, the FE actually went down.

Lastly, Honda warranty fulfillment can be an issue should you ever develop a problem usually (and sometimes unfairly) attributed to the use of the K&K filters.

Cheers;
