Electric pumps

Hey people does anyone know why they aren't using electric pumps for oil, water etc. I remember hearing a couple of years ago that Ford was going to introduce a Rovac electric air conditioner. Never heard or have seen anything sense.
The drag on the crankshaft to run a oil sump pump must be worth a few mpg's. The drag from the
water pump and a/c compressor also. If not eliminate them why not run them off a "pto" off of the transmission. I'm not an engineer but I believe that the "drag" reduces engine efficiency.
