Background tech.

Considerable wasted mechanical energy in practical working of I.C.E.can be recaptured and reused,this is the foundation of hybrid tech..In fuel-electric hybrid tech., wasted mechanical energy was transferred into electrical energy by generator and stored in batteries.When necessary,the energy was used to drive electric motor after processed by high power electric devices. It is the cost that hinder the popularization of the hybrid tech. Expensive battery system and high power electrical devices take up most of the cost.

Hydrogen injection or hydrogen fuel enhancement tech. has been proved much effective in promoting I.C.E.combustion , saving fuel and decreasing pollutants provided that hydrogen is sufficient. 30% to 40% fuel can be saved when 4%(mass fraction of fuel) hydrogen was added in I.C.E. in road running test. For decades, researchers keep trying the technology into practical use,the puzzle is no viable provider to supply sufficient hydrogen on board for ICE powered vehicle up to now.

Water electrolizers on board is a kind of long term running hydrogen provider. Amount of hydrogen provided by present water electrolizers on board is not sufficient for less than 0.1%(mass fraction),so the saving fuel effect was not obvious, as only 4% about. It is difficult for electrolizer on board to produce more as it means the risk of more mixing hydrogen-oxygen and higher electric power consumption as the electrolizer is unvailable to storing excessive energy.

I have invented an innovative electrochemistrical storing energy method and relating system for I.C.E. which is similiar to secondary batteries, being of far less cost, much longer life cycle.It can store above recaptured energy,then make use of the energy in producing sufficient hydrogen for injection in I.C.E. to get the same effect on saving fuel and decreasing pollutants as hybrid do.

Principle of storing and generating hydrogen:

Applied for patent in 2005,my method of storing and generating hydrogen by redox of zinc and water in electrochemistrical way can storing electrical energy and generating hydrogen repeatly. Relating devices,I refer to them as “Zinc Water Hydrogen Cells” ,are similiar to secondary batteries rather than ordinary hydrogen providers.The cells can be pilled up as stacks easily to multiply the amount of hydrogen.

In each cell, gas-generating electrode and zinc electrode are arranged in aqueous electrolyte. When storing hydrogen, it is as easy as charging a battery, only electricity and water is needed;the negative pole of power source is connected to the external circuit of the zinc electrode, and the positive pole of power source is connected to the the gas-generating electrode, switching on the direct current, on the zinc electrode, the zinc ions are reduced into zinc to store the electrons, the oxygen is generated on the gas-generating electrode by oxidation of water. When generating hydrogen,it is as easy as releasing electricity from a battery, the reduction reaction of water occurs on the gas-generating electrode producing hydrogen; zinc is oxidized on the zinc electrode;By controlling the electric current in circuits , the amount of hydrogen can be easily regulated without other means.

System for I.C.E

“Zinc Water Hydrogen Cells” was originally developed for supplying hydrogen to fuel cells.Realizing the great difficulty in popularization of fuel cells,I have been trying to apply it on I.C.E. since 2006.Having solved the puzzle in zinc electrode,a “Zinc Water Hydrogen Cells”system especially suitable for I.C.E.and its use have been developed and applied for patent in 2008.

The zinc electrode is only made of an electrical current collector, on where zinc was electrodepositing from zinc ions in aqueous electrolyte solution when electrical energy storing,and on where zinc was oxidated into zinc ions back to solution when electron releasing to produce hydrogen in opposite gas generating electrode. it is other than ordinary compressed zinc electrode made of electri current collector and powders of other ingredients, it is the special patented designing assure that no deformation and capacity loss occur on electrode,eliminate the expensive separating diaphragms in ordinary electrolizer. it can be regarded as a special on board water electrolyer with long life storing electrical energy function as in each cell one electrode is replaced by a special designed zinc electrode to store electrons.

By using special measure,the hydrogen producing rate can be increased to match the need for I.C.E..which is several ten times than that of present electrolizer on board,

To get the same effect on saving fuel and decreasing pollutants as hybrid do,the amount of sufficient hydrogen must be several ten times than that of present electrolizer on board,where the relating great amount of electrical energy is come from, following demonstrating can answer.

The system of “Zinc Water Hydrogen Cells” is an viable hydrogen provider for hydrogen injection,the system has advantages as following:

1.Low cost
There is no expensive and rare material used in the system.
For a 70 kw I.C.E., system materials costs only about 400 u.s.$, great amount of hydrogen and oxygen can be produced respectively in turn without risk of mixing, being about 50 times or more than in ordinary water electrilyzer on vehicle.When applying, only generator is needed,no necessity of another dynamic system with expensive batterries, high power electrical DC-AC device as well as electric motor.

2.The life cycle of system is much longer than any kind of present battery.
Patented special design and mechanism which different from that of ordinary secondary battery assures that no deformation and capacity loss occur on electrode.

3. Environmentally friendly
There is no pollutant material used,no lead,no cadium,no metal hydrid,etc.

The use
When applying in I.C.E., wasted mechanical energy collected was transferred into electrical energy and stored in “Zinc Water Hydrogen Cells” system, meanwhile,oxygen can be produced. When necessary, hydrogen is generated .Hydrogen and oxygen produced alternatively were put in I.C.E .as effective additives for combustion.

First and formost,the system can be used to maintain the I.C.E. running on a high efficiency state even in circumstances of idling and low load requiring.
In circumstances of reduced load or idling ,which always take up most of working time of I.C.E.,the efficiency is low, the system can be used to improve it in following way:

Charge the system at first by connect generator and system to I.C.E. to increase the load and efficiency, surplus mechanical energy was transferred into electrical energy, stored in the system(similar to hybrid), byproduct oxygen can be put in I.C.E. to enhance combustion obviously;After that ,switch off charging, keep I.C.E.running ,release hydrogen into I.C.E., sufficient hydrogen can increase efficiency greatly especialy when idle and low load requiring.

Above charging and releasing processes can be keeping on repeatly , only if state of idling and low load requiring are not finished.Each process can be within minute or several minutes for no I.C.E. stopping(different from hybrid) .so the capacity need of zinc electrode can be much lower.

Furthermore,the system can be used in capture and store energy normally dissipated during dynamic braking or coasting downhill(similar to hybrid).

As an additional auxiliary device other than another dynamic system ,it is easy to fix the system to ordinary and present using I.C.E. vechicle, I.C.E.-generator, I.C.E.-electric drive vechicle and other machines,.

For I.C.E. generator and I.C.E.-electric drive railway locomotives, buses, heavy goods vehicles, generator is ready,the cost is much less,fixing is easy.
