O&F change - Auto Minder or ...

My mechanic is recommending changes every 5,000miles. My 2007 (original owner) Minder has been regular at notifying me every 9,000. I drive 120 miles every day 5 days a week - 89% of that is highway. What do you think?
Also, this is the first time I've heard about flushing periodically. He's recommending every 4 - 5 O&F changes for that. I'm 57, and never had anybody recommend this. I just switched to this outfit (not a chain) because of their excellent reputation.

Perhaps the reputation alone is not a guarantee you seek when servicing your hybrid vehicle. This recommendation is not only seriously ill informed, but I fear for whatever else your mechanic may tell you that is also incorrect.

Please follow your maintenance minder as Honda's own engineers intended, and do not let anyone tell you otherwise. A good and knowledgeable mechanic will accept, understand and support you on this one. If he does not then seek some other outfit that does.

Dealership service department's "interpretation" of Honda's service intervals has been going on for *decades*. With the advent of the Maintenance Minder hopefully this will be finally quelled. Before MM they could always quote the the Severe Service recomendations, which typically cut intervals and/or distance in half, saying everone is Severe Service, for one reason or another.

When you bring it in for Service A, note that Oil Filter replacement is *not* spec'd. That is only at Service B. One work-around for that, if you don't like leaving dirty oil after change: have them remove, drain and re-install the oil filter, if they're willing.

If they're really sticky, consider getting into doing your own changes, if it's practical. The aerodyamic shield under the engine is a bit of a pain, but it's doable.
