I Can't Find One
Created March 16, 2007, at 11:01 pm by flowtime
I've been trying to get me an Altima for the past month with no luck from the local dealers. It seems like everybody in TN are jerks about helping me get one. I wanted to see if I could get one through a dealership here and have them ship it to me but everytime I go they just want me to get one off the lot, and pretty much tell me I'm stupid for getting a hybrid, because the won't be worth anything for a trade in and they aren't worth it and such not. I called some local states that sell them and they either don't ship it or it cost an absolute fortune to get it shipped plus I want to trade-in my current car so none of them will do that, but i'm determined I figure i'll just have to drive to New Jersey and make a deal there

Nissans website (nissanusa.com) is clearly not designed for locating vehicles in other states. It's a bit of a nuisance.
The bottom line is that you are going to have to purchase the vehicle online and then go and pick it up. For me, I managed to get a ride down to L.A. (from L.V.) from a co-worker who just happened to be headed down there for the weekend.
I recommend a one-way airfare or Greyhound ride. Make an adventure out of it! Bring the spouse or a friend.
Give me the exact specs your looking for. I bet I can locate the vehicle for you. Then just call the Dealership and make them an offer. I got $1000 off of a list of $26,400.
The messed up thing about all this is that i live about 5 minutes away from where they make the darn things. They make the Altimas in smyrna,TN and I live in smyrna, TN. but anyways I wouldn't have a problem with going to pick it up because I want to trade in my car anyway so I'll drive my car up there and pick my altima up. I'm Looking for a all black altima with leather with the technology package
I put the text file on my website:
http://favoritesbuilder.com/AHBOB.txt
Make sure you double check all of the details. I was a bit sleepy when I did it.
Good Luck!!!
You're going to have to wait for that car. There are very few altima's with tech package nevermind super black and tech package. I'm still waiting on my dark slate/tech package car. I know of 1 available in auburn, ma. it's quite silly that the plant is there and yet you can't just buy it...
I would make a deal through the internet sale dept. Don't tell them you are from tennessee until after you make the deal, this way they can't sucker you
hey, since you're in smyrna anyways, can you ask them why my car was held up?
Do I need to find more for you?
Did I leave off any important data?
Thanks alot Mr. Burnell I think it might be better if we found some more I was going to try to trade in my current car with one of the dealerships but there is no way I could work that out to send them my car and everything. So right now I have to find somebody to buy my car CASH and then I can get me one. I don't think it'll take me that long to sell my current car, maybe a week or to, but i'm afraid the ones that you found won't be there anymore in a that amount of time. Thanks again I don't know how you're finding all of these cars because I sure couldn't. Anyway hopefully I can sell my car quick and then I can get one that you've found.
p.s. You have pleanty of info on the cars. thx
flowtime: southwest flies out of nashville, so you can get cheaper one way tickets to where ever in the northeast, maybe $200. build a hybrid on nissan.com and send it to a dealership or two up there that are near an airport, just to get someone working on finding you a car. if they get you something you can book a flight and be there in a few hours. i found a dealership within walking distance of an airport and ones slightly further would have no problem picking you up at the airport. if you want my contact (since we're looking for different colors!) email me at (same_as_my_profile_name) @yahoo.com.
i know there's one black with the tech package/leather available, or it least it was today. of course there's lots of base models sitting on lots, but the ones with tech packages are being snapped up or are already on reserve. a car coming up on the computer inventory could have 3-4 salesmen trying to make deals on it for their customers. it's hard getting something in demand that's this new, so i have an order placed with one dealership for the long term, but i have another dealership looking for an unreserved car.
it is pretty annoying there there are only base models on the lot. i would think most people buying a hybrid would want the navi too b/c it gives more info on the system
langjie,
I wasn't willing to pay $1000 for a navigation system. My mother in law has it and rarely uses it and Ford wanted $179 for the CD to update the map to the 2007 street guide. I almost never use the cell phone in the car and definitely wasn't willing to spend $1000 for blue-tooth technology when my cell has speaker phone on it. I'm just not one to pay a premium for things I don't really need or use.
I'm thinking of flying down to Northern California to get one o' these "improvements on the Prius."
I've got a few questions though:
1. One of the other threads said not to tell them you were from out of state so that they can't gouge you when you arrive to pick up your vehicle. But then how do you arrange for that "bypass" title, and how do you negotiate?
2. Speaking of negotiation, what can one expect to pay? Someone on this thread said he paid $1,000 less than MSRP. One of the other threads said they saw "dealer markups" of $8,000.
3. Should I be building it online and pay for it online (can that be done?) and have it delivered (assuming I can't just have it delivered to a Seattle dealer, so I'd just find one close to a NorCal airport), or start calling dealers in NorCal and negotiating.
3. What about warranty work and other stuff that you'd typically go to a deal for? It's been about 14 yrs since I bought a brand new car from a dealer so I don't even recall what to expect in terms of dealer maintenance and warranty work and whatever else you'd need a dealer visit for. In this case, will the local Seattle dealer honor the warranty? Will I get treated differently because I didn't actually buy the car from that local dealer?
4. Mr. Burnell, assuming I get some positive/reasonable answers to the above questions, could you run a search for me for one with the convenience package? I'd prefer one of the darker colors (esp. black), but would be open to other colors if it improved my chances of getting one, or even negotiating w/ a dealer who might not be able to get rid of a particular color.
Thanks in advance!
1. that would be me who told you to not say you're from out of state. you should be able to negotiate things like price before you give away your information. you can just email some dealers
2. i am getting $1500 off of a car that still hasn't been delivered yet. I know of someone else getting 2000 off. Research what the invoice price for the specific car you want. i would say you should be able to pay invoice for a car (there are many many hybrids on the lot that only have the convenience package)
3. you should be looking through dealer inventories. you can do this online at nissanusa.com and then you can open the dealer websites
4. warranty work on the hybrid system must be done at a certified dealer. the non-hybrid components can be done anywhere. it really depends on the dealer, i don't think they will treat you much differently
5. refer to number 3
I like how you have your questions organized.
1. Personally, I think 'Honesty is the Best Policy.' There are plenty of units available. This is not poker. You can be completely up-front with the dealer. Maybe that's why my deal was so smooth. Can you tell I'm from Vegas?
2. Dealers are dealing. You should get $1000 off the $26K unit and $2000 off the $32K unit. If not got to another dealer. Once you make a deal, give them a deposit for the vehicle over the phone. Have them run the credit check, etc. Ask about extended warranty costs, etc. all before you get on a plane.
3. The website is a little tricky. Clearly not designed to locate a vehicle out-of-state. Go online (nissanusa.com) and determine exactly what car you want (build it) and I can find it for you. I'll make a list like this one: http://favoritesbuilder.com/AHBOB.txt and you can call and make them an offer.
4. I took a little bit of a risk as far as warranty work. My understanding is that Nissan is requiring at least 1 tech. from each and every dealership in the country to be Hybrid Certified. I am hoping that it will be 24 months or more before I need any work done to the vehicle. Your local dealership benefits from in-warranty and out-of-warranty service so they will love you either way whether you bought the car there or not. Not like you have a choice. The (bad guy) in this scenario is really Nissan, not you. Again, if they give you any flak, go somewhere else.
5. See number 3 :p
Boy, langjie, I am going to be as happy as you are when you finally get your car.
Hey Collin,
I replied the other day to one of your posts. I am still waiting to see one around here. I live in northern NJ and looking for a White Frost or Metallic Jade with blond leather int, tech package, floor mats and kick-plates. I was hoping there would be an incentive or rebates for the month of April. I have a few months left on my current lease of a g35x. I can waive them at almost anytime when the car is here and the price is right. The best price I have gotten is 31,000 plus tax and doc fees. Do you think that is the best I can do?
thanx
Larry
I'm in Wayne, if you could give me some info it would be greatly appreciated. I have spoken to most of the local dealers, not real happy with too many of them. As they say, they are one step below disk-jockey.
Thanx for your offer of help
Larry
I made my deal on a tech package, with splash guards, floor mats, aluminum kick plate for $30000. including destination. Just adding docs, reg and tax. Very happy, should have it by Wednesday. I will keep you up to date. Can't wait!
thanx
Larry
my dealer told me today that the order i had for the dark slate with the tech package was canceled by nissan. my order was placed in the second week in march, so i've waited 6 weeks for nothing. he said i could order a black with tech package or have a slate without the tech package on the lot, but no thanks. wow what gives?
if i could find one of these things on a lot somewhere i'd go get it, but everything seems already taken
well, when i was buying my car, i was told that a lot of tech packaged hybrids were cancelled because of a navi system supply problem. really sucks that you waited all that long for nothing (and i thought i had it bad)
are you going for the black then?
I'm in Chicago so would have to travel to get one, but would you mind sharing with me the location of where you picked yours up? I can head our to NJ if need be.
Thanks!
nope langjie, i'm done. moving in a few months anyway, so i guess it's for the better not to have the car payment right now. really the AH was supposed to be my bridge car to a full electric, so now i'm just setting my sights very low. my current car is crap has to go so i think it's a 2000 avalon for me, only about $7000. That should hold out for another 4 years until I can get my hands on a mid-size full electric.
i'll probably be lurking the message boards for a while, but that's about it for me. doh!
sorry to see you go. funny thing is i sort of wanted black more then slate though i love my slate
thanks. this board has been very helpful! i've wanted this car for so long now. too bad langjie got the LAST dark slate with the tech package!
haha, probably not! i think they are redoing the packages too. they discontinued all their old packages and have the same packages without the sunroof (which you can get separately).
saw it at cars.com
yeah - a loaded hybrid with the tech package (and a sunroof) was $32,265, and now it's $32,865. Invoice on the same model went from $29725 to $30,336. So, up about 600 on both fronts. (Invoice actually up a bit higher - which seems odd)
As was mentioned earlier, camry buyers lost some of their tax credit - making the price effectively higher. Looks like Nissan might be responding to that...
Sigh...
I wonder when the 08s will start coming out and the 07's might have some incentives going on...
they probably won't be coming out for another 4-5 months
well, i'm not surprised that nissan upped the price. they were losing money for each car they were selling anyways
Hi Nicholus. I'm in Chicago too. Did you ever get your hybrid?
Hi I found this site offering an electric car, for $5,000 - $10,000 & was woundering if anyone knows how to make a request to a dealership to make the minimum purches of 50 of these electric cars, in Colorado so I can try & get one.
I was looking for the Hybrid thing, but this electrice car will get like 300 miles on a charge..
http://www.xpcarteam.com/
Their not selling them to the public yet, not for 7 month after they get the funding, but they will sell car's to dealerships right know.
Can anybody give me an idea who I might request this to? Maybe some dealerships get Gov. funding when the make the move to hybrides.. But their intreasting looking, & I might be abble to afford one, I work at McDonalds so maybe this I can afford.
Jerrod
Hi, Robin - no - I was waiting until my local dealer service guys reported that they were trained in servicing hybrids. Good news! they are! Am now in the market.
Though I was interested in the Tech package, the irritations that others have reported regarding how the Navi operates when the car is moving + the fact that I've fallen in love with the Garmin interface has led me to get a hybrid with the connection package and then install an aftermarket headunit with a Garmin Nav built in.
FINDING a car out there with the right color and options package is prohibitively difficult, but I'm in no hurry. When I see one available, I'll hit the dealer's internet sales dept and take a trip to pick me up a Hybrid.
