Can you use the Alternative Motor Vehicle Tax Credit in more than one consecutive year?

Created February 8, 2009, at 11:19 am by Scopedog

Hi!

I'm really confused about the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit (AKA Hybrid Vehicle Credit). I purchased a 2007 Ford Escape 2WD Hybrid in 2007 and got the $2600 credit in my 2007 tax return. The 2005, 2006, and 2007 Ford Escape models still show up on the IRS' 2008 eligible hybrid vehicles list. Does this mean I can claim the credit again on my 2008 tax return, or does this mean that only people who bought an older model in 2008 can claim the credit on their 2008 tax return? Thanks for any help!

No, you can only claim the credit one time on a new purchase of those vehicles.

Thanks! That's what I thought, but some the language on the IRS website was confusing to me on this point.

Hi,
We are a group of students from Imperial College in London and as part of our MSc in Environmental Technology, we are studying the comparative influence of several groups of parameters on car-buyers' behaviour. We would be very pleased to collect answers from car owners and especially hybrid cars owners in order to draw relevant conclusions from our statistical analysis.
By filling in this survey, you will enable us to collect valuable data for our research. Of course all these data will remain strictly confidential and anonymous, and will not be diffused to anyone outside the academic staff at Imperial College.
here is the link to our questionnaire, it should not take you more than 4-5 minutes to fill it in:

Thank you very much for your time.
