Buying a Prius - What Should I Pay?

I live in the central Illinois area around Mattoon, Effingham, Champaign and Decatur. I have 4 dealers available to me, although not one of them has a Prius on sight at the moment. Most are getting one in within 1-4 weeks.

If I order one, do I pay full sticker price or is that negotiable? I've only owned Saturns in the past and haggling is not something I think I can do well with this type of car, especially if I'm ordering it to spec. I don't understand why you only get to pick 3 of the 6 packages when ordering a Prius. Not sure if there's a difference if you go to a dealer on what you can specify. Anyone know?

I'm buying a Prius from the O'Brien in Urbana, and I'm paying MSRP. I had initially intended to buy a Corolla and had negotiated a price at $300 above invoice. I later decided to get a Prius instead, and when I started to ask about a price I was informed by the salesperson that because of high demand they were only selling this vehicle at sticker price.

Check out the Price Pulse on HybridCars.com (its on the left side of the homepage) to see what people are paying.

Also. if you drive up to Chicagoland you might find some in stock right now. not sure, but when I was there a few months ago I saw lots of Priusssss on the road.

No, I'm pretty boring, I ordered a silver one. Of course after I order it I see 4 silver Prius' over the next week in the CU area. If I had to guess, I'd think that it might be possible to get a better deal in the Mattoon area where demand isn't as high for a hybrid; but I don't really know. Good luck with your purchase.

I'm picking up my new Prius here in Mattoon on Friday. I was working with the dealer in CU on a red one that they are getting in 4 weeks, but the guy in Mattoon actually worked to locate one and it will be here on Friday. It's the blue color, not red, but that didn't matter all that much to me. And I saved about $350.
