Battery charging while accelerating

Created August 30, 2005, at 7:45 pm by Anonymous

I have recently notice that my HCH 05 sometimes charges my battery while accelerating, also going up hill, and maintaining 55 mph not coasting on CC. I would think that the battery should be assisting or at least be at even and not charging. Usually the battery has a 40%-60% charge already in it. Is this normal? Has anyone else experience this.

happens on mine - when the battery is below half there seems to be some logic to charge the battery even if there's a simple grade going on. when there's a bigger grade it gets full assist from the electric.

This is a normal condition.
Forced charging will occur when the system determines its necessary.

I noticed this on an initial drive after a near total discharge of the 12v battery. I had got the car startable with a charger being hooked up for about 4 hours, and then went for a test drive. The IMA battery state-of-charge indicated nil, at first, but then started to climb. Going up a hill I switched to S and immediately 3~4 charge bars showed, and persisted for the duration of the climb. See my recent posting.

The 12V battery seems to have survived the discharge, at least for now. Our service manager wrote it up as: "better than good!", thanks in large part, I'm sure, to my charging the crap out of it for about 3 days.
