A/C

Created August 11, 2005, at 6:43 pm by Anonymous

I am finding that it takes quite a bit for my a/c to get really cool. Even when I'm driving on the highway, it takes time. Not sure if this is just how the hybrid works or if something is wrong. Thanks

Which car?

Yeah, that would help. It's the Ford Escape Hybrid.

Hey Janel-

The regular A/C setting on the Escape HEV needs full engine power to refrigerate the air it sends into your car- However, the regular A/C setting will not force the engine to turn on- so if you're running on hybrid or electric mode, the A/C air blowing is not refrigerated. If you're sweltering...turn on the MAX A/C setting, and that will automatically kick on the engine, cool the air, and get your Escape cooled down quickly. I'm in LA, have over 10,000 miles on my HEV, and use the MAX A/C sparingly- to get the car cooled down when I first start driving, and then I switch to regular A/C with the refrigerated air recirculating. My mpg are down overall for the summer (29 vs. 31) but I'm not giving up A/C completely!

Hope that helps-

Its swealtering here in DC. I drive my 4WD FEH like Joan. I use the max when I get into the car and once we are moving we switch to regular A/C. The regular works better (obviously) at higher speeds. Can't survive in bumper to bumper with just the regular when its 100 degrees!
