Does Anyone have any suggestions for aftermarket wheels?
Yes I am going to keep my important low resistance tires.

Bubba, please for the love of god do not get rid of your wheels. I am a wheel guy who has spent many hours waxing my BMW wheels. If there was an upgrade, I upgraded it (remember the ugly wheels on the Lexus SC430) chromed it or bought bigger.
Big freaking waste of money and time.
Come over to my house and clean my wheels one afternoon if you want to get your feel for "cool wheels". I love my 2008 civic hybrid wheels 5 minutes to clean them PERFECTLY!

Someone in our neighbourhood is driving around in a base Civic (black door handles and mirrors) with Hybrid rims. I guess you're not the first to get the cool wheels bug.
I think the Hybrid rims look pretty sharp. Plus, they're supposedly a little lighter, and more aerodynamic. Plus, I just can't see taking delivery on this well put together package, and then right away going on the hunt for some "better" wheels.
I just finished washing our '06, and just to break up the chore of waxing the whole car at once, did a thourough job of waxing just the wheels. Used a scrap of terrycloth for the most part, and an old toothbrush to push wax into the hard to reach corners. Took the pop-out center lids out, did it proper. Plus the zone where the rim meets the rubber. Then hit the rear wheel well edges with the waxy cloth. The latter tend to be vulnerable to rusting, on any Honda's we've owned.

I bought the five spoke EX rims and noticed a very slight decrease in FE, less than half a mile per gallon. The EX rims make this car look like it should, that is very good. The stock rims look absolutely hideous, although I admit that is an opinion. My advice is to find a tuner guy who bought an EX or Si near you and take their stock rims off their hands. It's a great upgrade to an already good car.

I happened to notice that guy with the base civic with Hybrid rims just yesterday, and I see his rims have more open area than our '06. Ours have 5 small open wedge opens, and 5 wide depressions that aren't open all the way through. OTOH, with this guy's rims the 5 wide depressions do go all the way through.
I would assume this was a minor tweak Honda did, either on '07 or '08 model year. The new rims look more accesable for cleaning, and for helping the brakes to run cooler.

I bought a used 2003 honda civic hybrid and it had some generic-looking alloy wheels on it, not the original low resistance ones. Would it be worth buying special ones? Should I wait for these tires to wear out (they're close to brand new)?

Your absolutely correct- I noticed the same thing.
Best thing to do when changing wheels.
1. Weigh the current tire and wheel combination.
2. Weight the tire and wheel combination to be installed.
3. If anything over 5lb difference- plan on lowered FE regardless of the design of the wheel.
