2005 HCH Salvage and Rebuilt
Created June 21, 2007, at 8:40 am by papillon
Recently I bought 2005 Honda Civic Hybrid on a private sale. I decided to buy this car because of my line of work requires me to drive all over the place. I hate the thought that I am a major contributor to Global Warming and polluting the air since I am a very environmentally conscious individual.
The car was titled as Salvaged and Rebuilt, however the car is in perfect condition. All doors closes properly. Dashboard lines up with no tell tale of being rebuilt. Engine's very quite and runs smoothly. All amenities are in good working order with awesome fuel efficiency. The only thing that gave away that this car was rebuilt was a small paint drip which barely noticeable.
At present time I'm certainly very pleased and have no complaint about this car, but for a peace of my mind, I brought this car to the Honda Dealer to have it checked and assessed for problems and possible future problems and there were one but not a major issue and she passes all the other tests.
Is it possible that I struck one heck of a great deal? or I'm in denial?

Congratulations on your purchase.
Indeed, it appears you may have gotten a great car. I only say that because you had the car looked at by a Honda delalership and they ran a comprehensive set of tests which were largely successful. This is very comforting and helps reinforce your confidence in the vehicle.
Kudos to you for taking the right steps.
May I ask if this is a manual transmission vehicle and how many miles it has?
Also, did the dealership/Honda say anything about the remaining warranty as well as any provisioning conditions that may apply?

It's an automatic transmission and it has 18460miles when I got it. The warranty has been voided due to an accident that happened on Dec 2005.
Should I worry about this?

It looks like you got a good car there. The CVT and the low mileage play in your favor for a long and reliable service life provided that you are judicious in its regular maintenance.
One of the best expenditures you can make to ensure maximum reliability is to have your H-ATF (transmission) fluid changed frequently. For regular urban duty on a Gen 1 Civic with a CVT, this type of service should occur between 25000 and 30000 miles (some folks recommend even more frequent intervals, I do not disagree). please note that Honda's own "earlier" recommended interval is not adequate. The H-ATF fluid must be changed more frequently than that.
Other things to keep an eye for, is the application of all software updates for the car's various systems - particularly those that prolong the life of the Cat converter. Also have the dealership look at the state of the EGR valve whenever possible especially at the time of an oil change.
Since you no longer have a supporting warranty it is imperative to think preemptively with respect to regular maintenance because resolving problems earlier on is always less expensive when dealth with at a later stage.
Was the 2005 accident repair done by a Honda dealership or Honda approved repair shop? If it was, then I find it impressive that they voided the warranty - if so then it must have been a serious accident.
Also step over to the HCH-1 section of the greenhybrid.com forum. Once there, you'll be able to read up on a lot more valuable info for your car.

I did exactly what you have suggested. When I brought it in. I told them not only I want to have complete assessment but I purchase the Type C service.
I still can't get over how cool it is that the engine shuts off when you stop and start again when you step on the pedal. Isn't technology amazing?
I found lots of peole still affraid of it, though.
