2003 HCH battery questions

Created September 17, 2008, at 10:26 pm by kirby3531

Okay, I was stupid. We had our first child 5 weeks ago and I completely forgot to drive the HCH during the last 5 weeks (I walk to the train station these days and my wife drives our Escape Hybrid). I went to drive it yesterday and found that the 12V was completely dead. I replaced it tonight with one from NAPA (much higher CCA and peak). After replacing it, the IMA gauge is at 0 bars. When I drove it around the neighborhood, the IMA light remained on and there was no action from the charge/assist gauge.

My questions are:

a) Did I do something wrong when replacing the battery or forget something?

b) If not, Is there something I can do to get the IMA system to reboot and start charging without a visit to the dealer?

Thanks in Advance

Yes, disconnect the 12V battery again and leave it off for 15-20 minutes.

Then plug it back in and go for a leisurely drive. When you reconnect it make sure the contact is good and remains that way as you tighten the terminals.

If that does not cure it then you may need to have the codes cleared with a good OBD-II scan tool.

Cheers;
