07 HCH Maintenance?

Created July 9, 2007, at 1:05 pm by machin66

I have had my 07 HCH for about 2 months now and have put about 6,700 miles on it (due to a trip from Florida to Oregon to Idaho, and my job where I do deliveries) and my oil life has been at 20% for a while (the service light hasn't come on yet though). I have an appointment with the dealership in a few days to get the oil changed and to get some "check-ups."

On my trip to Oregon, my friend told me that my steering wheel alignment was off. I've also been reading that the Dunlop tires on HCH's wear fast either because of bad alignment or because they're not very high quality.

Anyways, I guess I'm a little confused by all this information, so I was wondering if there's a proper maintenance schedule for the 07 HCH that I should loosely adhere to. Unfortunately, I don't know much about cars, and don't want to get tricked by the dealer or anything like that, and would appreciate any guidance. Thanks :)

You've got some good points here.

As we have mentioned before in this forum, it is not unusual for new HCH-II to arrive to the dealer lots with some mis-alignment. In my case, I have an 06 and an 07 and I had the alignment performed on them on delivery. Not surprisingly, mis-alignment was found in both instances.
So having the alignment made on the car at some point and on a recurring basis is a good idea.
I've owned Dunlop tires before and they've lasted as long as any other tire I've had subsequently. My preferred tire brand is Michelin but I certainly do not mind when I get Dunlops. Other folks may have other ideas about the wear factor on the Dunlops but I would tend to regard that as the result of mis-alignment or under inflation/load issue.

Your user's manual and warranty booklet should be the authoritative guide to the servicing requirements for your HCH-II. If a dealership offers you an alternate service plan then please notify your Honda regional office and seek the advice of another dealership. Unfortunately, there are dealerships that do not deserve our business and it pays to be on the lookout for them. In the other hand, if you do find a dealership that offers consistent and transparent service, then you may choose to stick with it.

Can someone confirm the algorithm used by Honda for the oil changes?

My guess is that it's based on the amount of fuel used along with perhaps some other factors - much like Mini Cooper does for the Mini - as opposed to strictly a total number of miles driven.

Gerry;

The maintenance minder takes the following as inputs:
- Average engine RPM
- Engine operating profile (Average temperatures, average engine % load, etc)

The calculation does not use elapsed distance since last service as an input.
