i live up north an need the heater. in a standard car you wait until the water temp starts up and turn the heater on. i have read thru the manual but with the prius not sure. i am making a guess you set the temp turn it on and it is intelligent enough to start the fans when it is warm?

In defrost there are even electric heaters (weak but working) that will quickly begin the defrost process.

The heating system in the Prius uses heat from the catalytic converter so works almost immediately upon start up. No coolant is used in the heater system. Turn the heater on when ever you want.

I am interested in buying a Prius. I live in Michigan. So, there are many months I need to turn the heater on.
I have heard that you have to use the gas system in the winter because the heater can only be used with the gas system.
If,this is true. It would only sever me as a electic car a few months out of the year.
