06 HCH brakes - Squeak/groan sound

Since practically the day I bought my 06 HCH, I have occasionally, but persistently heard a squeak or groaning sound when I depress the brake pedal. There is no rhyme or reason to when this occurs. I have taken it to the dealer twice. They were able to hear it the second time and said they drove two on the lot and heard the same sound in those vehicles. It sounds like a little emission of air coming from the brake foot pedal. The service dept. contacted "Tech Support" and were advised that the "condition described is an operational characteristic of the vehicle". Has anyone else experienced this? It's driving me crazy, but moreover I am concerned about the effectiveness of the brakes.
