Former NBA Star Visits Chevy Volt Plant

A bit of trivia for readers who are also basketball fans. Which basketball player grew up with a dad building cars at the Detroit-Hamtramck plant, where the Volt is currently assembled?

The answer is former NBA and University of Michigan basketball star Chris Webber.

Webber dropped in on General Motors’ Dham plant yesterday to gather video footage for a documentary of his life. Webber’s father, Mayce, worked at the plant for 30 years before retiring.

Webber, who helped lead Michigan to the college basketball championship game twice in the 1990s before a 15-year NBA career, greeted workers and checked out the Volt, plugging in its electrical charger and finding ample room for his 6-foot, 10-inch tall frame.
