Feds Review Complaints on Ford Flex-Fuel Vehicles
Oct. 17, 2006: Inside Line
The consumer watchdog group Public Citizen claims that some of Ford’s flex-fuel cars have trouble starting, run rough and are prone to stalling when fueled with the ethanol/gasoline blend E85. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration says it is reviewing the complaint.
In the complaint to the feds, Public Citizen President Joan Claybrook said 228,000 2003-’05 Ford Tauruses and Mercury Sables shouldn’t be labeled and counted as E85 vehicles since "they are not capable of operating on a mixture of alternative fuel and gasoline." Ford denies the allegation.
