In a city not shy of super cars, the police force of Dubai unveiled its most recent high horsepower acquisition on Wednesday.
The BMW i8 plug-in hybrid joins ranks with a multitude of other high-end sports cars in the Dubai fleet, such as a Ferrari FF, Audi R8, Bugatti Veyron, and a Lamborghini Aventador to name a few.
If it’s a got speed and looks, they more than likely have it just awaiting a high speed police chase – not that their “beater” police vehicle, the BMW 5-series, is a slouch by any means.
The i8 is equipped with 228 horsepower 1.5-liter inline-three cylinder engine which is helped along by a 131-horsepower (98-kw) electric motor, giving it a combined 357 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of a hasty 4.4 seconds with a top speed of an electronically limited 160 mph.
While it may not be the fastest machine in the arsenal, it certainly is a more fuel efficient option than say their previous purchases of a Bentley Continental GT or Mercedes Benz SLS AMG which have an average MPG of 16.5, as opposed to the i8’s efficiency rating of 76 MPGe.
Be on the lookout for the new i8 in the near future, cruising around tourist areas of Dubai sporting its well known green and white livery.
