So Bill-USA you admit Corn ethanol production does use over 1/4 of the corn crop to produce enough (light weight – low energy) ethanol to save about 3% of our fossil fuel use? I am not impressed.
Of course the government passing laws mandating how much celulistic fuel must be produced by private industry is just as absurd. At least the funding (if you must waste tax payers’ money) should go to making more energy dense butanol…

Scaling this to even make a dent in replacing gasoline will be one large, if not impossible, task. These things are basically chemical plants.... better than using food for fuel though...

Corn based ethanol does not use 40% of the corn supply. To get this figure you have to ignore the coproduct of corn based ethanol production - Dried Distillers Grains and Solubles (DDGS) which is a high protein feed supplement used for cattle and pigs. Only the starch portion of the corn is fermented into alcohol. Since DDGS replaces corn and soybean feed, the net usage of corn to make ethanol is more like 26%.

You really shouldn't be repeating this disinformation.
