C4 Cactus Couples Funky And Technology

Citroën is known for its funky cars and a new model, the C4 Cactus, continues the tradition.

Set to be presented at the Geneva Auto Show early March, the new C4 Cactus is a real alternative to the traditional compact hatchback, said Citroën.

Boasting a striking design, Citroën said the New C4 Cactus stands out in the competitive C segment, offering a unique style that is both functional and attractive.

One of the ways the French company pushes to be innovative is in its aim to educe running costs by eliminating the unnecessary. Citroën explained with efficient engines of the latest generation and weighing 200 kilograms less than a Citroën C4, the new Citroën C4 Cactus combines driving enjoyment with reduced consumption: 91.1 imperial mpg (75.85 U.S. mpg). This for a car roughly the size of a VW Golf and with conventional powertrains.

Citroën did not mention which engine and transmission combination allows the Cactus to reach this fuel consumption.

Many other innovations are part of the design of this vehicle.

Airbump technology is a Citroën exclusive the company calls useful, aesthetic, and customizable. Incorporated to the sides of the car and the bumpers, Citroën said Airbump adds a graphic structure to the pure, smooth bodylines of the new Citroën C4 Cactus; above all it provides real day-to-day protection, as the supple TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) skin comprises air capsules to absorb impacts. Airbump requires no specific maintenance and directly contributes to cutting vehicle repair costs.

Another technological novelty of this fuel efficient and stylish vehicle is ‘Airbag In Roof’ technology, the only application of this in the world. Citroën said transferring the passenger airbag to the roof and deploying it over the windshield, rather than positioning it in the dashboard, gives the front passenger more room and storage space.

Finally, a panoramic sunroof with thermally insulated glass – the best available on the market per Citroën – provides advanced heat protection, thus less need for the AC system.

Citroën stated in Geneva, the New Citroën C4 Cactus will be shown as an “Adventure” concept, the styling of which invites the driver to cross borders, to travel and meet people. This concept highlights the graphic elements on the New Citroën C4 Cactus and the many possibilities offered by this new model. The picture with this article shows the production vehicle.
