Borgward BX7 PHEV Takes Plus X Awards As Automaker Stages Comeback

A German automaker known for selling durable small cars many years ago just won several Plus X awards for its all-new crossover SUV plug-in hybrid electric vehicle.

The Borgward BX7 plug-in hybrid SUV has won several awards recently for design, high quality, ergonomics, and functionality. It was also won the SUV of the Year 2016/2017. The Plug X award is sponsored by WBT, a German automotive electronics supplier.

Borgward is a German automaker that has had no presence in the U.S. market for nearly 50 years. The company is known for building small cars that were reliable if not very stylish. The company and its brand name have been revived lately through launching its crossover SUV, which has been a strong selling segment in auto markets around the world.

“The Borgward BX7 has demonstrated once again that we’re on the right track with our product strategy,” said Tom Anliker, vice president for marketing, sales & service at Borgward. “The Plus X Award is a very prestigious one for us because it honors both the outstanding design quality and the top-class functional performance displayed by our premiere model.”

Criteria used to evaluate vehicles in the awards include ergonomic and ecological features, along with the use of sustainable materials with long-lasting value. The Plus X Award judges recognized the BX7’s interior combining “classical elements with innovative state-of-the-art components to create a harmonious atmosphere.”
