Announced this morning at the 2017 North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the rear-wheel drive version will start at $51,400 while the all-wheel drive xDrive version will start at $53,700. Neither price includes the $995 destination and delivery fee.

BMW’s fourth iPeformance model pairs an electric motor with a 2.0-liter twin-turbocharged four-cylinder gas engine to make a total system horsepower of 248 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The plug-in hybrid is projected to have 0-60 mph time of 5.8 seconds.

That power will get to the wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission that doesn’t use a torque converter. Meanwhile, the battery pack has a capacity of 9.2 kWh. Charge time is under seven hours when using a 120-volt outlet and under three hours when using a 240-volt, according to BMW.

Like other BMW iPerformance models, the 530e will have Sport, Comfort and Eco Pro drive modes, as well as Auto eDrive, Max eDrive and Battery Control modes. As with other BMWS, the Auto eDrive tries to optimize the gas/electric motor combo for all situations and limits the car to a 56 mph top speed, while Max eDrive switches to electric-power only (unless the driver needs a boost for passing) with a top speed of 87 mph. Finally, Battery Control allows the driver to set the charge level manually.

The 2018 BMW 530e iPerformance and 530e xDrive iPerformance will be arriving at dealers this spring.
