AeroViroment EVSE-RS Named Official Home Charger for Chevy Bolt

General Motors has named AeroVironment’s level 2 EVSE-RS charger as the official home charging station for the Chevy Bolt.

As the all-electric Bolt makes its debut in California and Oregon this year, GM is giving its seal of approval to AeroVironment’s 32-amp EVSE-RS for home charging. As an official accessory, it will be labeled with its own GM part number and will be available through Chevrolet dealerships.

According to AeroVironment, the 240-volt, level 2 EVSE-RS can charge up to five-times faster than standard cordsets available in the market. It’s been designed for indoor or outdoor operation, equipped with advanced safety features, and tested beyond UL requirements for safety and reliability guarantees.

“We selected AeroVironment due to their strong brand recognition, reputation for reliability, and decades of leadership in supporting EVs,” said Darin Gesse, Bolt EV Product Manager, in the press release.  “In addition, their EVSE-RS provides proven performance, making AeroVironment a great partner for Chevrolet.”

GM now joins Nissan, Ford, and Fiat in partnering with AeroVironment for EVSE-RS charging stations. Automakers continue to look for charging infrastructure partners to make the electric car shopping and ownership experience less stressful and more seamless.

In February 2013, AeroVironment launched a “turnkey” home charging package allowing customers to finance a charger in combination with the all-electric or plug-in hybrid electric vehicle at the time of the sale. Unveiled at the National Automotive Dealers Association Convention in Orlando, Fla., the program was designed to make plug-in electrified vehicles easier for drivers to purchase, and for dealers to participate more actively in promoting PEVs in the evolution toward clean, electric transportation, according to the company.

AeroVironment is hoping the GM seal of approval brings the company more credibility in the competitive charging space. The EVSE-RS is one of several charging options the company brings to the market, and the spectrum includes workplace and commercial charging stations, dual level 1 and 2 chargers, and DC fast charging stations.

“Our broad array of EV charging solutions is helping to make EV ownership more efficient and practical, by offering convenient residential and workplace options for drivers who are looking to charge their EVs faster and more affordably.  GM’s selection of our EVSE-RS is a strong validation of our approach,” said Ken Karklin, Vice President and General Manager, Efficient Energy Systems for AeroVironment.
