I think, theoretically, it can also be renewable if you collect the methane gas from septic tanks, cow dung, land fill etc. Some people collect the gas and use it in their natural gas burners for cooking.

Also, I believe the average American drives less than 40 miles per day, so Electric Cars are viable for the average American. The Chevy Volt seems to support that hypothesis because most Volt owners hardly ever need to use the gas generator.

As CNG stations sprout up along the interstates over the next 2 years, I expect more auto companies to offer CNG vehicles. Ford, GM, and Toyota all have experience w/CNG vehicles.

I see CNG hybrids as a cost-effective and extremely clean “bridge” technology car for the next 10 years as we transition from crude to electricity. It gets the US off of OPEC crude immediately (except for plastics, rubber tires, oil/grease, etc.), and gives us breathing room as battery tech matures.
