2014 Lexus GS 450h: The Changes

As the 2014 Lexus GS 450h is about to become available, the company highlighted what changes the model is seeing.

The GS 450h Lexus Hybrid Synergy Drive system still delivers 338 total system horsepower resulting in an EPA fuel economy ratings of 29 mpg city, 34 mpg highway and 31 mpg combined.

New for the model for 2014 includes Siri Eyes Free technology licensed from Apple, compatible with iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 models; flush-mounted sensors for Intuitive Parking Assist; and full-color display added to the head-up display.

Also new for 2014 is the climate concierge feature now included with optional heated/ventilated seats while the available blind spot monitor adds rear cross traffic alert and power-folding mirrors.

This year, the GS 450h transmissions sport mode now provides eight steps, rather than six, and also adds a kickdown switch.

For 2013, changes to the Luxury Package includes LED foglamps, Liquid Graphite finish for the 18-inch wheels and the radio station and song title info are added to the rear armrest control panel display.

Finally, an optional power trunk opener is added and the Lexus Night View system is discontinued.

Unchanged from last year is the fact the improved fuel consumption over the previous generation is achieved through a high compression ratio of 13:1, a new mid-port intake tumble generator and the adoption of a Lexus D-4S fuel injection technology.

With one injector installed in the combustion chamber and a second mounted in the intake port, D-4S combines the strengths of both direct and port injection for maximum efficiency and lowest emissions.

Just like on the 2013 model, the PCU boosts motor drive voltage to a maximum 650 volts in Sport mode and limits it to a maximum of 500 volts in ECO mode under normal driving conditions.
