Anyway, 100 miles is very unfortunate, especially having the Tesla name on the powertrain. Not sure of the strategy here but let’s see what happens with Tesla’s $30000 vehicle offering. I’m guessing there may be a sedan and small suv at this price with a much larger range. Also remember that the RAV4 is not an EV by design so I would expect Toyota to start with a fresh sheet for their REAL EV (Powered by Tesla of course)

The question is, when will it be on the market?

I know 100 mile range is considered minimum for EVs, but you got to start somewhere. Many people will consider that adequate, and as sales increase, the price will come down and next generation batteries will bump up the range 50% or more.

Now that several thousand EV’s with 100 miles or less are on the road, perhaps they should be surveyed to see how “range anxiety” impacts usage and perceived value.

Where I live, I would need 120 miles or more (i.e trip to LAX and back) for the car to service my needs, except for trips where a rental would suffice.

I am really looking forward to the second generation batteries which should provide 42 KWh of capacity for the same cost as the current 20 to 25 KWh EV’s.
