Hopefully GM will develop a similar engine for the next generation Volt. The most fuel efficient cars today, non-hybrid or diesel, get a combined 33 MPG with highway numbers ranging from 38 to 42, and one of those is the Ford Fiesta. I would expect the mileage to be about 10% better, so perhaps 35 MPG combined with a highway mileage north of 40 MPG. Time will tell.
